Remedios Varo is a lesser known Mexican Surrealist who was overshadowed by Frida Kahlo, and the books exploration of her work and her journey is extremely interesting. The books contains some color plates - it would have benefitted from more. But even on the black and white plates, one can easily appreciate that Varo was an outstanding by: 9.

This book was the product of the first US retrospective of Remedios Varo's work, and is limited to works presented in that exhibition, so it is far from comprehensive. That said, the design of the book is beautiful, the selection of her work is impressive and the brief biography and analysis of her art is a good introduction to this artist/5.

She was part of the Surrealism and the book gives an excellent overview of Remedios Varo's life, her artworks, and her surrealists friends.
